The Leukemia is Back: Friday, January 10, 2003

As many of you know, Jason had another routine bone marrow biopsy on Monday - at the halfway point in his treatment. It was discovered that the leukemia was beginning to return. Yesterday he was admitted to Shadyside Hospital again to start Plan B. He will go through another induction for the next 17 days (very similar to his treatment in August but with different chemotherapy.) After he's recovered, he'll be receiving a bone marrow transplant. We don't have all the details on this yet, but it should be in March or April and take us out-of-state for 3 or 4 months.

Things that will help us:

• The card campaign during his 1st treatment was really great. ALL of his walls were covered with cards and well-wishes. If you are able to again, the envelope should be addressed:

Jason Tsaggaris, Room 701 - Main UPMC'S Shadyside 5230 Center Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15232.

• A lot of people have asked about becoming bone marrow donors and/or being placed on the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Again, we don't have a ton of info yet, but so far we know that you can go to your local Central Blood Bank and sign up there. In Pittsburgh, the branch is on Fifth Avenue downtown and their phone # is 1-800-310-9551. You can also go to www.marrow.org to find out compete details on donation.

• Soon he'll be neutropenic again, so no fresh flowers or food.

• If anyone wants to help with our animals, mail or whatever, and you have a key to the house - go ahead. And thank you!! If you'd like someone's email address to coordinate efforts, I'll be happy to give it you.

I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting, but for now - thanks again for everyone's support and prayers! It’s really made a difference.
