The latest news: · The results of last week’s bone marrow biopsy showed no signs of leukemia and some engrafted cells from the donor, but we still don’t know what percentage are the donor’s/Jason’s. This DNA test could take another week or so to come back. They have, however, decided his body is rejecting the donor’s cells and are contacting this wonderfully generous man to request another sample. We’re not sure when, or if, he’ll be able to help again. Hopefully we’ll have more answers this week. · As no surprise to anyone, Jason desperately needs a mental break. We have successfully lobbied to get him a “day pass” to leave the hospital for about 4 hours, under highly controlled conditions. An infection would be very dangerous, so we must be very careful. If it helps his spirits deal with the latest setbacks, if only to have different surroundings for a while, we’re more than willing to give it a try. · Because the cells are not working as they should, he is requiring daily transfusions of blood and platelets. We have gotten pressure from MD Anderson to come up with replacement donors – primarily for platelets. We were hoping that local employers, with ties to Jason, would allow their employees some time off for the donations. It is a 2 ½ to 3 hour process and we need to start having people donate every day. Eric Van Stone, at Reliant Energy, has been tremendous enough to start the drive, with some help from his friends. Monday through Thursday of this week are already assigned! Please note, that being the same blood type is not important! If you live in the Houston area, or know someone that does, please pass this message on to them. Better yet, forward this link from Jason’s new website! www.billmonti.com/jason/plateletdrive.asp · www.billmonti.com and www.billmonti.com/jason -- My brother, Bill, the website design genius :-), put this together for us. Everything you’d like to know about Jason’s situation is on here. And I am going to put all future updates on it, as well. That means no more mass emails. Yeah! So…put this on your Favorites List and check it every few days. Thank you for all the love and support all of you have given to us over the last 9 months – and especially what we’re going to need to get through the next few. Melissa
