The Transplant Cometh!: Friday, June 13, 2003

Well, everything went according to schedule today between 1 and 1:30pm. Which means the transplant went, thankfully, without event. He's had no side effects so far - and it doesn't look like he will. Our plan now is to wait the approx. 20 days for engraftment to happen... Lex was able to donate 11 million stem cells over his 6 days of treatments - 4 million more than the protocol required. Did anyone have a doubt? :-)

Ironically, our biggest concern today is not the transplant, but improving Jason's appetite and ability to eat. He's had horrible nausea and vomiting over the last 3 days and is currently on IV nutrition and a liquid diet. He has also begun a new chemotherapy anti-nausea drug today - just approved by the FDA this month, Emend - so hopefully that will help. But like with everything else, we'll just need to wait and see.

We've taken a few pictures of the day's events with my new digital camera. I'm hoping Bill can help me get them online in the next few days. You'll be able to see all of the B-Day and Get Well cards starting to fill up the room again! -Melissa
