Jason's counts headed upwards again today - his white blood count to 1.6 and his red blood count/hemaglobin went up on its own, too. So... Jason's being discharged today! He's excited, but not feeling great again. Because the WBC has gone up so rapidly, those cells are quickly trying to heal his ravaged throat. This means scabbing and sloughing of the skin inside his throat - making him gag and vomit quite a bit. Disgusting - but a sure sign that he's getting better.
Tomorrow begins the out-patient clinic process again. He'll be required to go every day for a while and receive any necessary blood and platelets, as well as any vitamins or minerals that are currently low. This can range from a 3-9 hour day. We are still pretty anxious about his counts, as well as leaving the safety of the hospital surroundings, but it will be terrific to have him at "home." His standard 30-day post-transplant bone marrow biopsy is to be scheduled for July 11th. We'll just be holding our breath until the results of that come back - letting us know if there are any signs of leukemia left. -Mel
