Hey everyone... Well, I know you've been chomping at the bit for an update... We saw Dr. Shpall today and it was worth the wait. "Things could not be going better," were her exact words. His initial bone marrow results show no definitive evidence of leukemia in his system. With his cells beginning to engraft after only 10 days, she's very positive on the full results. When the cytogenetic results (DNA test) come back in about 2 weeks, we'll know for sure. This will also show how much of Jason's marrow has become Lex's. As proof of her faith in his rapid recovery, she dramatically reduced his clinic schedule to 2 days a week - Tuesdays and Fridays. This leaves weekends off to explore Texas a bit and finally, for a little while anyway, breathe a cautious sigh of relief. Laura Lemberg, a local MD Anderson patient, who heard about us at her church, came for a visit this afternoon. It was wonderful to meet her and her mother and hear about their experiences (both good and bad) while overcoming leukemia and her unrelated donor transplant. We hope Jason will look and feel as good as she does after only 8 months! We'd also like to thank ENSR-Houston for another terrific show of their friendship and generosity... A gift certificate to our favorite local Italian restaurant - Prego! We hope to use it this weekend - with Jason - when his sister, Laura, visits from DC. Thank you so much! As things will be a lot slower around here, we will most likely keep the updates to once a week or so. But we'll be checking the message board everyday. We don't want to lose touch with anyone! One last note... As Jason's need for platelets has greatly diminished, we are temporarily going to put the platelet drive on the back burner. If you are already scheduled, please keep your appointment. But until we need to ask for help again, we'll have people stay "in reserve." If you've already been donating on a regular basis anyway, keep up the good work! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful people in the local area, those we know and those we don't, who have taken the time and effort to assist us when we needed it most. It has been much appreciated! Take care, Melissa
