Well, since my last update Jason has developed severe GVHD. Full-body rash, extremely high and erratic fevers, and painful stomach and bowel problems. Needless to say, he's exhausted and tries to sleep most of the time. We're now going to the clinic everyday to monitor his blood counts and physical well-being. They are not treating him for the reaction yet - which means they are giving him no medications to ease his symptoms - because this will also curb the reaction's ability to fight his leukemia. The docs want to wait until the last moment to give him anything, which is completely nerve-racking for his family and me, as we hope they don't let it get to the point of no return. We're keeping an eagle eye on him over the weekend for any new coughing or shortness of breath - signs it has progressed to his lungs or heart... Jason and I are also extremely disappointed that we will not be able to make Jay and Tracy's wedding today. The 2 J's have been friends since high school and it was so important for him - as a personal goal 6 months ago - to make it home in time, and be healthy enough to go. We hope you have a wonderful day (the weather's beautiful!) and a fun and relaxing honeymoon! Hopefully Jason will be stronger when you return and we can get together as a couple of old married farts! The emails and letters to donate and/or walk with us on October 1st for the Leukemia walk have been pouring in! I joke with Jason everyday how loved he is, because I don't know many people that would have gotten this much support from people all over the country. (There's an episode from Seinfeld where Jerry is telling his parents about a guy that doesn't like him and his mother is astonished. "He doesn't like you? How can anybody not like Jerry?" I just insert Jason's name everytime we get a terrific card, or lately, when people whom we have never met say they are going to walk with us or donate, just because of how great they've heard he is.) Sometimes I feel like a carnival hawker, but there's still time to get involved! It's for such a good cause. They have helped us recoup a good bit of money in travel expenses, and the research they do for a cure is unmatched. There is still a week and a half to register to walk or donate on-line. Please see the links at the top of the page! Have a good weekend and we'll catch up with you again soon. Thank you! -Mel
